Same song, different songs?

February 5, 2008

Now, I’m officially annoyed! Every time this song comes on on radio I am screaming and banging my head (mostly against steering wheel). They’ve stolen bass and rhythm from another song, ripped it off clean!… I am talking about this Duffy person with her song “Mercy”  Compare with “Stand by me” by Ben E. King ( I know, it was done in 1961, but so what? It’s still the same thing!!!!)

Safari ushers in better browser colors | CNET News.com

June 19, 2007

Another reason to use Macs? Or you can just install Safari on your Windows (although I’ve heard it’s full of bugs at the moment… but in fairness it is called Beta!)

According to the article at CNET (link below) Safari “supports different ways of encoding images that can man richer, deeper colors”.  ( Safari ushers in better browser colors | CNET News.com )

Now, at first it didn’t mean anything for me either, but reading the article I’ve figured out that, apart of usual RGB colour representation there exists other ways of encode digital pictures, and they’re existed for some time now and are widely used in proffesional circles. And Safari is the only browser that can understand those other encodings and show them correctly. And this promise even better pictures on the web.

You can check for yourself if your browser understands it or not: looks like magic to me! Follow this link and see for yourself.

Another day – another death?

June 29, 2006

I know my writing about it won’t change anything, neither anyone’s reading about it whould. But this cuts deep, and I feel like writing. From the local news:

Baby boy dies after Co Cork road crash

29 June 2006 15:09

A nine-month-old baby boy has become the youngest person to die as a result of a road crash in Ireland this year.

It was a head-on collision. Pictures in the news – pure horror. 6 people involved. Imagine: mother taking her 3 kids somewere (one of them – 9 month old), another mother taking her only child in the oppositie direction. And now baby boy is dead, both mothers and another child still in hospital. One life lost, 5 lifes shattered. Even more than 5 lifes shattered.

It is wrong to make any conclusions on who’s fault it is, but what if everyone of us will just SLOW DOWN on the roads?

There is no meaning in this post, and probalby only about 4 people will read it. And I don’t have anything to say, apart from the fact that I feel the pain, and my thoughts are with poor mother of this unfortunate baby.

What OS am I?

May 10, 2006

Why, I’m OS X, and it’s official! See for yourself!

You are OS X. You tend to be fashionable and clever despite being a bit transparent. Now that you've reached some stability you're expecting greater popularity.

How to blog from Emacs

January 30, 2006

Finally got a minute to write how exactly I configured my Emacs to blog. First thing you need is the mt.el and xml-rpc.el files (you can grab them from http://www.marginalia.org/code/mt.el and http://www.marginalia.org/code/xml-rpc.el respectively. Place them somewhere (I choose to drop them into ~/.emacs.d/ directory). Add following lines to your ~/.emacs file:

(add-to-list ‘load-path “/home/misha/.emacs.d/”)
(require ‘mt)
(global-set-key “\C-cwc” ‘weblog-create-post)
(global-set-key “\C-cwr” ‘weblog-retrieve-recent-posts)
(global-set-key “\C-cwg” ‘weblog-retrieve-post)
(setq weblog-id “1″)
(setq weblog-username “username”)
(setq weblog-password “password”)
(setq weblog-url “http://username.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php”)

Make sure you’re replaced username and password in the weblog-username, weblog-password and weblog-url statements. Comments from the mt.em are worth printing out, as they explain how to use the thing.

Depending on your installation of Emacs things might not work with only mt.el file. You need to have w3 web browser for Emacs installed. On my Debian Testing system I had to install following additional packages: w3-url-e21 and w3-el-e21.

Blog from Emacs

January 24, 2006

I know, I promise to explain how to do it, but I’ve been busier than I thought I would be…

I will try to post tomorrow, both about “how-to” and about developments with my knee (which, by the way, is getting better, so no need to worry).

Attempt to blog from Emacs

January 20, 2006

This is an attempt to post a blog from Emacs. I know, there’re lots of nice and shiny applications out there, but I do love Emacs! I use it for nearly everything. If this is successful I might write down how exactly I configured it (believe me, it’s easy enough).

Wandering of Mind

December 6, 2005

This is just wandering of my mind. I’ve been thinking about few things for a long time now, and decided to post it. Most probably no-one will read this, but at least it will be “out of my mind” and might be able to survive and develop.

The thing is: I’m away from home, away from people I love and I care about. I’m away from my friends. And I’ve been thinking if that’s right thing to do? They (friends and family) aren’t going to be around forewer. Didn’t I wasting my time by not spending it with them? I know when they’re gone I’ll regret every second I didn’t spend talking to them!

And another thought: I’m crap on keeping-in-touch. I haven’t wrote a single word to someone who’s been one of my closest friends. Now I don’t know if we’re still friends, or if that person is very angry at me for not wrtiting or ringing and will not consider us as close as we used to be anymore… But that goes into “self-pity” and “self-mutilation” department (“oh I’m so bad, I’m not worth your love”, and I expect a tons of “no, you’re very nice, don’t be so hard on yourself” in return).

I’m loosing friends out of my stupidity. My advice to the whoever reading this: don’t do the same mistake.

hi there.

December 10, 2004

This is my very first attempt to blog… Hi there! I’m joining the waste community of bloggers.
